Danish Pastry
2 1/4 cups warm water
1/2 cup sugar
2 Tbsp yeast
1/4 cup milk
1/2 cup melted butter
2 eggs, beaten
1 tsp salt
7 cups flour
Combine first flour ingredients, let work, then add next three ingredients. Add the seven cups of flour 1-2 cups at a time. Mix flour in good, but do not knead. Let rise one hour, then out in two oblong pieces (18 x 10).
Filling:
1 cube soft butter
8 oz soft cream cheese
1 cup sugar
1 tsp almond flavoring or pie filling
Cut slits at one angle on both sides of the filling and "braid" bread over the filling. Bake at 350 for 20 minutes. Frost with butter frosting if desired.
The other 18 x 10" piece can be used to make cinnamon rolls.
Makes 2 large jelly roll pans.
