Caramels (A recipe from Emili)

1 cup butter

2 cups sugar

14 oz. sweetened condensed milk

1 cups corn syrup

1/8 tsp. salt

1 tsp. vanilla

 

Mix butter and sugar.  Add milk and corn syrup and salt.  Cook until reaches soft ball stage, about 5 minutes.  Remove from heat and add vanilla.  Put in greased 9 x 13 inch pan.  Let sit overnight.

Makes 135 candies.

Emili made these caramels every Christmas for her neighbors.  Her sister said that everybody loved them.  It's fun to have some recipes from Emili's kitchen now in my kitchen (and yours).
